Government Wants Slower Ship Speeds to Aid Whales, That was the title of the Article I read. It talked about the endangered Right Whale, and how the Government thinks slower ship speeds on the east coast would help the population of these whales. I agree with the article when it says they should lower the ship speed limit, the right whale has only a population of 300-400 in the wild right now. Lowering the speed of ships on the east coast would also lower the amount of ships striking and killing the whales. They set a speed limit for Glacier Bay National park here in Alaska to protect Humpback whales so it wouldn't be the first. I really like the idea of setting a speed limit on the east coast, especially since the whales migrate through the busiest shipping ports. It's a small change that could make a big difference.
Here's the article if you want to read it.

I'm glad you reacted to this article, because otherwise I probably wouldn't of heard anything about this issue. I'm not too familiar with whale migrations or ship speeds, but when there are so few of that type of whales left it seems like the least people can do is lower the ship speed limit if that is shown to help more whales survive. Thanks for your post.
If we followed the speed limit in Aniak, just think of all the animals that would have been saved. That's a good blog. Way to go Adrian.
